John,

I have users scattered around the country using my app which includes the VFP Label Wizard. There seems to be no problem with the majority who use the pre-defined Avery Labels that come with the Wizard. I had added a #10 Envelope to the Label Wizards label table because it was common and a lot of users needed it. This pre-defined envelope works fine for most users who use common printers like HP Laserjets along with the drivers that come from either MS or HP (I know about the HP problem and have added the fixes). The problem with the envelopes, though, comes from users of some Bryce printers, which are text only envelope printers, which use the Generic Text Only driver. They have the driver's paper size set to #10 Envelope at the time the label was designed and at the time of printing. They can print to screen but if they try to print to printer they get the error message "Unable to load printer driver". They can print from other programs to the Bryce using the Generic driver but just can't print labels with my app. The envelope may have nothing to do with it but that is all these printers can print to so we can't run tests with 2-up labels to see.

We have run tests with the .lbx files EXPR, TAG, and TAG2 fields populated with the proper data and empty of any data but still get the same error.

I have run tests using the Generic driver but, since I don't have a Bryce printer, I have hooked up both an HP LaserJet and an old Epson dot-matrix and everything works for me. It seems that I can't duplicate the problem without an actual Bryce printer hooked up but I can't see what that would have to do with this error message since up to the point of loading the driver the program shouldn't even know what printer is hooked up.

This thing is a mystery. Why can they print from Word but not print from my app when everybody else can except for this particular combination of Bryce -> Envelope -> Generic driver? I'll keep trying to figure it out. I see postings of similar problems involving VFP SP3 and NT but the current user with the problem is on Win 98 SE and I have tested on 98 and 2000 without problems.

Thanks for the reply, keep me in mind if you hear anything.

Ed

>Ed,

>Did you go into page setup while editing the lable? If not try fooling around with it some. I can't exactly tell you what you need to do because it's been a while but I remember that I fixed a few problems there. Also be aware that you have to set up the form in each printer when printing labels or odd sizes such as 8" x 7" checks. I just set up a new printer with the custom form and then use that printer when printing your labels. By the way, are you using one or two up labels or laser sheet lables. The one up on pinfeed is what I have been using and that is what needs the custom form.

>>I was just searching for a similar problem. I have a client who had used the VFP6 Label Wizard to design a label but when he goes to print the labels he gets the error "Unable to load printer driver". He is using a Generic Text printer driver in Windows 98 SE to a Bryce printer. When I try to duplicate the problem with everything the same except using an HP or an Epson printer but still using the Generic driver, I can print fine.
