From one of your other messages, you said you are *not* explicitly specifying a tempfiles directory. I was wondering if it might be a good idea to do so:

- on a large machine with lots of resources (e.g. RAM) small apps may not write temp files very often. Large apps that massage a lot of data will write temp files more often.
