From Rick Strahl's book, which everyone swears by:

"Visual InterDev (VID) is targeted squarely at ASP developers with an amazing array of tools, wizards and widgets to make it easier for developers to get into the Web. Personally, I'm not sold on Visual InterDev—there's too much clutter and the tools are not very well integrated. It's also very slow because everything is connected to a virtual Web, and startup to run individual pages can take upwards of 30 seconds—productivity really suffers with this kind of delay. Your mileage may vary, but I find that I'm much more productive working directly with script code and HTML, rather than letting wizards do it for me and later having to figure out the wizard's code. While I do use VID, I tend to use the editor and the data viewer but not much else."

Later he also says: "Visual InterDev excels at syntax completion and color highlighting in its code editor." I suppose that the limitatiions of ASP, discussed in that book and by various people here on the UT, are among the limitations of VID.
