I use an activex calender control and place it off the viewable area of the form. Then when you need it, just move it into view(covering the date entry so as to commit them to using the calender), when they click a date, update the datebox and shoot it off the visible area. I usually let people enter their own date or right click for a calender, but you can do the same thing if an invalid date is entered.
