>IMO, it's a maturity issue. Remember JAVA is just in it's infancy v.2.0. VB is now 6.0. as well as VC++. Linux for example has also varied versions but they've the same architecture.
Part of the arguement from Sun was that the Windows extensions that MS added would not make the code platform portable.
