I take your point concerning FOX speed. Using local tables is fine for lots of
apps. The kind of very specific applications i currently make requires :

- only midsize database (10 k records per table no more).
- strong security without crypting (hence a real database engine is needed),
- generating highly complex SQL SELECT statements on the fly (hence a high
level compliance with SQL standards- say SQL 92 - is required)

From that last standpoint i feel SYBASE anywhere stands out against competition
including supposedly higher-end products (some of them awfully complex to
set up or administer). It is an impressive product despite inexpensive.

Check what you can do with SQL SELECT grammar in respectively SQL 92, SYBASE Anywhere, Access ... and FOXPRO.

FOXPRO offers splendid local ISAM speed we all haved like for years.
That is a reason not move to competition (DELPHI, PB or others) despite regular
rumors of VFP demise.

I do use that local speed with temp cursors once i have retrieved data from database server (mainly via SQL Pass through dynamically created SELECT statements). But i clearly want a stronger engine as data repository.

SQL server is an option but does not run on WIN95 and NOVELL. Which
is my current environment.
