hmmm, I don't have that experience. To my knowledge if you lock the PK table - record and do a REPLACE pkvalue WITH pkValue+1, the incrementing mechanism should be just fine, even in heavy trafic LANs or whatsoever.
Do you have any references to the described problems ??
