Hi JohnK,

SNIP
>Since that episode, which consumed my life for about 6 weeks, I no longer trust this method of maintaining keys in a heavy volume situation. It's just not worth it to me when I can very easily use a GUID. Or even SYS(2015) in some cases.

I've read that a GUID is guaranteed to be unique worldwide, but I always took that to be specifically in the context of its designed-for use. In that context the "generator" can use the registry to double-check this (at least as I imagine things). Do you check the returned GUID against existing keys to assure uniqueness?

I certainly remember that one of the features of Win98 was 'significant improvements' in peer-to-peer record handling.
