Earlier versions of DB2 were a real [impractical] PITA to access. The current version is
ODBC compliant and can be accesse by VFP with them.
However, since we only needed read-only access to the DB2 tables on our IBM mainframe, we used the Oracle Transparent Gateway [also on the mainframe] to get at the DB2 data. We created views of each DB2 table in Oracle using an Oracle database link object.
Being the Federal Gov't with our computer resources in RTP and managed under contract, getting any changes to the DB2 side was next to impossible. So we currently live with the Oracle Gateway. The up side is that performance is not affected at all.
