There is an old but still available mechansim to do this (the xBASE variant of INSERT), but it's very expensive to use - better to maintain position using an index rather thanshifting physical record positions.

The syntax for the xBASE variant is:

INSERT [BLANK] {BEFORE]

BLANK is equivalent to APPEND BLANK, inserting the record immedately after the current record in the table

BEFORE specifies that the new record precedes the current record.
