Hi John:

Just heard about this, myself. For anyone else interested, see:

http://www.accpac.com/media/press_releases/20000615.asp

I am a former SBT reseller, and now a potential end-user customer in my role as Sr. DBA at a small manufacturing facility in Richmond CA.

Frankly, I don't view this acquisition as a positive thing at all. Every PC-based software company that I have seen acquired by CA since the
early days has ended up in oblivion, since CA's focus is on big-iron. This included Sorcim SuperCalc/SuperProject, Nantucket Clipper, dbFast,
and others. All the hype at the time was that this was a good thing, but instead of continued development and porting into the Windows
environment we all have been forced into by Micro$oft, rather all these customers and myself have is orphaned products... The organizational
and improved resources potential of CA over SBT is huge, but the past history of this scenario for the PC arena has been abysmal, to say the
least.

I am particularly concerned about continuing availability of source code for 3rd party customization, and support for VFP specifically in SBT
products. Also, how would this affect plans for development of hooks into Oracle and SQL-server, since CA has its own client-server DBMS?

Sent a note to the PR guy at SBT just now. Will be interesting see his response!

Anyhow, thanx for the heads up. I only got the news a few minutes before I saw your note...

Rob

>Ironic, as CA just bought SBT today.
