Remember Nellie Fox -- he had such a good eye that he'd foul off just about any pitch that hit the strike zone and was the most walked batter for many seasons in the AL. But, like you said, that was my image of the Sox -- like a chess game.

Sure, I remember Nellie quite well. As I mentioned, many of the Sox and their families lived in the Picadilly Hotel right across the street from me during the season. One of the reasons I remember Nellie was that I had a crush on his daughter, Bonnie.

Because of knowing the players and other members of the organization, I never have "hated" the Sox. It's just a matter that I liked the Cubs better. It's tough to dislike a team when they're giving you free tickets and other stuff.:-) In fact, down here, we have only back license plates. So in the front tag holder of our car, there's always a license plate of one of the Chicago teams. We rotate them depending on the season. Last year at this time, the Cubs were on the front. This year it's the Sox (nice timing< s >). Next Weds., however, myself, wife and two sons are going to see the Cubs play the Braves at Turner Field.

It seemed they never could get a 4th starter. It was a memorable team. And, as one of my Chicago friends says when he takes in a game at Wrigley -- "I'm going to see some magic."

Now this isn't the '69 team. That team had Don Kessinger at short, Don Young in center and Jim Hickman in right. Besides Fergie, they had Ken Holtzman and Bill Hands with Phil Reagan (the "Vulture") coming out of the pen. Talk about heartbreak.
