Michelle,
The first thing I would do (if youare using Outlook ) is set the Attachment Security to High (Tools - Options - Security - Attachment Security). Doing this will allow you to choose Save to Disk as an option instead of just opening the attachment. Then you can open whatever it is in Notepad which is not necessarily the default program for whatever extension it has.

What you are doing now is probably very good. If you can actually see the text, scan through it briefly and look for keywords like CreateObject (that was in the first line of this beast). If it's in there, it's a script virus.

After confirming it is text, I open it because I find it hard to read the text in the message properties window. I'd hate to be fooled when I'm being so careful.

>>This one is much more clever than the ILOVEYOU version. I've received two copies of it today with different subject lines, FW. Joke and Funny Text. Both of which are fairly common when people send jokes.

>>Luckily I am a very suspicious person when it comes to e-mail from our corporate office < s > and I deleted both before they could do anything.
