I had a similar probelm a number of years ago. I found a great little memo replacement utility program called word wrapper. It not only cut out the corruption but it also cut file size and bloat problem with memo files in half.
The only problem is I'm not sure if the program is still around. It was put out by a company called Strategic Edge in San Francisco. If it is still around you should give it serious consideration.
