John,

I have some very unsophisticated users. I think big buttons and few choices is the way to go. I would skip the menu, or at least make sure you had buttons also. I would show only one form at a time and use modal forms.

Older people especially have trouble with the mouse since their hands are not steady and they have lost some coordination.

Also, don't forget that new users may not be good typists either.
