Also, check out the microsoft web site.
Wrox has a number of good books on VB and database related items.
www.wrox.com One that was very helpful was about VB and Databases for Beginners. They also have VB with SQL Server 7.0, etc.
I would suggest using ADO, and you can look for white papers on that topic. If you at least had the Wrox book on Beginning VB Databases, you would be off to a good start.
When I was given my first VB project about two years ago, I had to use ADO and the MSHFlexGrid. I was very familar with ADO, as I had been using it with VFP for some time. To get the MSHFlexGrid to have proper captions, column widths, and data source, took about one and a half pages of code. I had a parent, child, grandchild relationship. In VFP this would take a few minutes by setting the grid property sheet, but VB requires lines and lines of code. Is VB a RAD tool? With VB I feel like I am writing a book as opposed to creating a data base application. The things we do for money!
Good luck.
