I'm with Evan on most of his recommendations, but skip the City Guide and go to Avantgo.com. It's much more comprehensive and will daily download your choices of news, weather, maps, directions, etc. to your Palm. Very useful.

Also, Pocket Quicken from Landware, Memo Plus, ToDo Plus & CoLauncher.
