Is there any documentation on word automation or the ffc _mailmerge?

Is the mailmerge class mainly used for creating a mailmerge document in word, rather than printing out the document with the data filled in?

I've seen from other posts that I should probably set bookmarks in the word document and then change these bookmarks to the corresponding data for each record printed?

Is there a simple example out there somewhere I can look at that takes this process from beginning to end? Creating the documenet to filling in the fields with data to printing?
