the 'somewhat' is the GDI, the grafical device interface. All video drivers and all printers are accessed by talking to GDI what forwards our needs (draw me a line, please) to the hardware driver that has links into GDI. The problem now is that some manufactors don't see a need to implement that 1% of GDI functions that no software on the world (meaning Word and Excel) will ever use. So they save some time for development and execution of their code. Unfortunally, FoxPro lives in the tradition of using 100% of all defined GDI function to get the fastest result possible. If now FoxPro (any Windows version) calls a GDI function that is not implemented properly by HP, everything from a blue screen to a GPF to a stand still might happen.
It's not Microsoft, it is the manufactor that doesn't implement the standard correctly or simply incomplete.

>You have to ask someone at Microsoft that question. Video and printer drivers have always been somewhat tied together under Windows.
