>With a VFP app?

Yes, it can be done, especially just for replacing runtimes (you supply it with the files to install in a package). However, I will add that my LAN administers use this and there have been several debacles where SMS failed on many machines, etc. It has never been perfected real well. They also have remote administration ("seat" operation), and that works more smoothly, but requires coordination of user and admin, so is hardly better than a personal visit. Bootup/login silent BATs is a third way, of course, to deliver some things, but again you'll have to work with your central LAN people and get all the REGSRV code right, etc. That has problems, too, and is messy code-wise. I'm sure there are other similar techniques, but we are a fairly big agency with a fair number of LAN experts over the years, and no one has ever come up with a foolproof automated delivery system.

Personally, I (and usually my LAN people too) use personal visits for large, complex app installs/upgrades, as invariably things go wrong on a few machines. Local server admins (like me) are often responsible for office installs. For smaller apps, just an email with instructions works usually. But you already know these techniques :)

>>You might want to consider whether you really need to install this SP, though. I don't see anything right off the bat that's going to get me pumped up enough to upgrade all my users :) I'm just going to run SP4 on my test machine for now, and leave the SP3 in place elsewhere. Unless I see something that looks important...vfp7 will be out before too long, you know.

See Erik's post, too. There will be nothing to break if you don't start using it. I wouldn't jump too fast into this, you may be doing a lot of work for virtually nothing. Not every SR/SP is always vital. Don't even load it on your primary dev machine and start using it to work, as you will get stuck then. If you have an extra machine for testing, that's a good place to try an install/test. There's not much for most vfpers, same as in SP1 & 2. If you see something critical in the short list of vfp-related things, of course that's different.

Also, it may be back-compatible with SP3, but I wouldn't count on it.
