Shut everything down on the PC, reboot the PC and immediately run VFP, open the database exclusive and issue Validate Database Recover. If anything else is tying up the files, this should stop it. If it still thinks it is read-only, CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up the list of processes running and see what the list shows (you may recognise something running that uses the DBC).
