The copyright issues can't be too bad as other companies have done it. I'm completely blanking on an example right now, but I know I've seen it done many times.

FTP site would work, too. The point I was trying to make is that I don't buy the argument of software being out of stock. Software can be replicated endlessly. I think if a company is going to make a software product that people depend on, they have an obligation to make sure it's available as long as it's needed. Notice I didn't say "support it". I can fully understand not wanting to dedicate resources to support a 10+ year old product. But there's no reason that people shouldn't be able to get a copy if they need to without resorting to piracy.

I think software companies need to get a dose of reality if they don't realize people need this old software. Did the whole Y2k thing teach them nothing about how ancient of software is still in use out there?

>Errm, there's some copyright issues with that, I'm sure. Actually, I was thinking along the lines of slapping it up on a password-protected FTP site. I wouldn't ever look for it to happen, though. The attitudee inside a lot of companies, and not specifically MSFT, is, "why don't they just upgrade?". You work with SBT, you know what I'm talking about. :-)

>Now, you and I know that converting takes time, which equals money. Yeah, just try to explain why you blew a chunk of this year's budget upgrading without adding any new functionality. Alas, those inside the software companies are used to working on the bleeding edge every day, and the concept of using ten year old software is completely foreign to many of them.
