Jess;
Actually, it is easier than ever to make money with scams. The Internet, mail and telephone (telemarketing) have opened all sorts of opportunities. Many of these scams originate in Florida, can be very simple or very complex. Almost every day the news media will announce some new scam and how it works. People will watch and listen to the information and then allow themselves to be ripped off.
Our son has a GPA of almost 4.0 in college. He received a letter allowing him to write his biography, which will appear in a scholastic book we have never heard of. After filling out four pages of personal information including social security number, they ask for your credit card number and payment of $75 to handle “costs”. You will then be notified when the book will be published and be allowed to purchase a copy, at a cost to be announced.
If you can scam 1,000,000 people out of one dollar – you get the picture. If I have given anyone inspiration to begin a scam, that was not my intent.
Tom
