This idea came to me as a result of the recent release of SP4. As was posted here several times, when a new service pack is released, the best way to install a newly compiled version of the application is to create new setup disks and have that run (ostensibly by the user).
The release of the SP also prompted the discussion regarding implementation of application launchers to update applications that reside locally, but can be updated from a LAN.
Here's the problem...What we'd (or at least I would) really like to be able to do is use the application launcher to check for the existence of a new setup program and be able to run it without user intervention. IOW, in "quiet" mode.
Unfortunately, the EXE produced by the Setup Wizard doesn't support any command line switches to do this. So that's the suggestion. Allow the EXE to support at least the /Q parameter for quiet installation.
Any thoughts?
