Actually I'm not sure I fully understood the answer, but it seemed as if it would stop at the end of the line (i.e., mabye the CRLF character). But I kind of shied away from that becuase of the length thing -- no way to say for certain how long these would be.

Anyway, I ended up using a low level read that would recognize the end of line.

Was that answer about as clear as mud? Need more coffee.
