I want to emphasize that my comments regarding UT go no further than this particular business decision. I think that UT is a fabulous resource. It's a community for all of us. Unfortunately, I think that this most recent decision will do more to harm the community (and help UT's competitors) than it will help the community.
I would have been much more receptive to a proactive message that explained the need to exercise such a strategy and perhaps invited suggestions. I've already heard some good ideas in this thread alone.
Whether PUTM is worth $125 or not is a subjective opinion (I definitely think it is). But that's beside the point here. I don't understand an organization that imposes decisions in a way that alienates its community (or at least a substantial portion of it), especially when that same community really wants the organization to be successful.
