>I can't seem to find out where to configure my network settings in KDE for @HOME. Any tips on where the IP address and DNS setting are. Any tips for @HOME service?

I wanted to include a note about distros in my previous reply, but I forgot.

While I've never setup a Linux box to connect to @HOME, I do have a 24-7 ADSL connection to the internet via my local phone-company-isp.
As I stated previously, I use SuSE. When I switched from a 56K modem to the Cisco 675 router that was supplied to serve as a DHCP server I fired up YaST (Yet another System Tool - SuSE's setup wizard) and told it to setup DHCP. It asked a few questions and when it was done doing it's magic I had an ADSL connection. I never setup a cable when I was running RH. I've seen some of the other setup wizards in other distros. Mandrake's is surging out in front with theirs but others will catch up. That's what competition does when it is not strangled by monopolies. :-)

Just for grins I logged into root and used ifconfig, route and netstat to setup my NIC, and manually edited the rc for the dhcp, just to see how hard it was. (wasn't hard at all - as I used to tell my Engineering Physics students: Everything is easy once you know how!).

Each distro maker has a different philosophy about what their distro is best at and what utilities, beyond the basics that are in almost every distro, to include in their package. It has become a religion in the Linux community. Penquinistas are very loyal, if nothing else.

BTW, we are very fortunate to have JW contributing to this forum! I've been using Linux for three years now, and since January it has been the only OS on my box at home. I've studied Linux and read lots of advice from lots of people. I may not know that much about Linux but I know how to spot someone who does, and JW does! My only problem is that my 60 year old brain doesn't remember as well as it used to and I have to resort to the howto's to refresh my brain. I'll bet JW is writing that stuff off the top of his head... and it's accurate too!
