What? Ambiguous or hard-to-find docs in Linux? NEVER! *smile*

What kind of card is it? Your best bet is to head for linux.org or linux.com and check out the hardware compatibility lists. Odds are that your card will work.

Next step is to head for www.dejanews.com and siply type in "linux" and the brand of your NIC and you will probably get lots and lots of hits. Some drivers are hard to find because they might come from an individuals home page or some hard-to-find vendor-specific page.

You may end up having to recompiler your kernel. Don't worry, it isn't that hard, and there _is_ plenty of documentation on that. I highly recommend finding a site that has all of the Linux HOWTO docs, and check out the Networking-HOWTO, Ethernet-HOWTO, Hardware Compatibility-HOWTO, etc. These docs are written by normal folk and range from the heavily-exampled to ivory-tower sparseness, but they usually get you there.

I have gotten DLink, LinkSYS, and RealTek network cards all working on my various linux boxes, both ISA and PCI. These are "bargain bin" brand names, so if I found drivers for them, I should think you would be able to find something too!
