>When I use the gird builder to start the grid it somehow commands the form to open the DBF file. I would like to control when files are open. Can you tell me where I can delete the line it creates. Also, if you delete the grid it does not delete that line and still opens the file anyway.

Try entering the name of the table in the grid's recordsource property before starting the grid builder. If you do, VFP should already select the table and display its fields for you do select.
