I realized why the current setup wizard doesn't allow you to add a short cut to the start menu or desktop. I doesn't have anyway to know their locations. Neither does it know about the IShell Class Factory (I think that's it< g >). It creates the group and the shortcut via DDE with (of all things) the good old Program Manager.:-)

Dumb question here....

Why not just ditch the Microsoft product for, say, InstallShield or some other product? Maybe I'm missing something here but it strikes me that these other products can/will do what you need.


Could this be a result of Microsoft not seeing itself in the installer program business?

I do agree that something should be done here but I just wonder if there's not already an answer.
