Dave,

I'm in the same spot you are. The VFP installer is not very elegant and its underpowered. I have taken a look into Visual Installer from Microsoft that will be included on the MSDN cd's shortly. It is very easy to use but it has one drawback: it can't set the 'start in' property of a shortcut. This (to my opinion) is the only reason why I'm not going to use it (yet).

I am now taking a look into the InstallShield Express. This program does not have the strange shortcut behavior.

Both packages are very staightforward. To make sure what files you need to include you should build a VFP setup and print it report. This will give you information as to what is required.

The best part of both packages is that you can indicate where the files must be put. This means that unlike the VFP-installer you yourself can determine where the runtime files are copied into. I personaly want them to reside next to my application.

If you don't want to do complex stuff (meaning progamming) than Installshield Express is the way to go.

Regards,

Ron Brahma
