Could someone point me to a website where I can learn enough C to do the following in Visual C++

1) Open a text file and read an application name stored there
2) Run the application

I would like to compile this into a stand-alone EXE that requires to runtime DLLs or other supporting files.

It has been so long since I used C and the VC++ IDE confounds me.
