Define remotely. Are you talking about accessing it from a workstation connected to the network? You need to run the Oracle Net8 Easy Config. There will probably already be an SPX or TCP/IP entry there that you can modify. Step through the wizard, but do not change any parameters. The last form will give you the SID name, which should be ORCL.

The initial way to get in is with the username of SYS and the password of MANAGER. My initial guess at the Server connect string name would be ORCL. So, use these three parameters [SYS, Manager, ORCL] to login in using SQL*Plus.

From that point you can create a master user [e.g., a username and password for YOU]. Grant that user DBA privileges.
