>I'm contemplating moving our present App. to Web where users can inquire, update data and generate report from the browser. How difficult in doing this? I have zero experience in this and what should have and to consider to do this? I have come to known number of products like FoxWeb, X-Works and West Wind, how do they compare to each other, any comments? Should I engage professional to do the interface part, any recommendation? A lot of uncertainties??? I hope someone can give me some sound advice, thanks .....

From the experience so far of the clients I have developed Web applications in VFP, I can tell that, for there first attempt, they all tried to invest time themselves in order to have an application on the Web and then discovered that they would have been better to get a head start from a consultant or consulting company that already have a certain level of experience with this implementation.

In my case, each client I have developped a Web application for, has first invested an average of 2 months before asking for help. But, I also know some companies that had success in their first application by not invested too much time and made some great applications.

I guess it goes about the same as a company who start a desktop application without any framework.

But, the Web has extra components, like servers, browsers, security, protocols, etc. that we have to learn the concepts and manage to work with them.

As for comparing the method to use, like parsers, ASP, Microsoft scripting, etc., I can only comment on two, which are X-Works and West Wind Connection.

X-Works is the one I use because it was the first available. It is fast but you will have to manage to build a framework. From applications to applications, I managed to build one and it helps me a lot on every application. As for West Wind Connection, it is a little bit slower but has a pretty good framework.
