I don't know too much about config.nt, but a sure way to make this setting work is to put it right after the name of your clipper app.

If you app is called evancli.exe, call it by issuing the following command:

evancli //f:40

You can add most clipper settings after double slashes (//) after the command line.

If the number after the F: is not big enough and clipper can't open a file, you will get an error message.

In your case this doesn't seem to be the problem because the app does run (albeit slow).

Another idea is to ask in the clipper newsgroup (very active) or run a search for a web site called OASIS that specializes in clipper. You might find something there.
