The others gave you sites, to look. I just want to share our own experience here. We created 2 applications, which allow us to do, what you want: Querier and BTCrit. Both of them use ideas of metafiles, e.g. the users make their selection criteria and they then saved in these metafiles... This is very comprehensive and sophisticate tool, which we use. If you're interested, I may send you e-mail of the programmer, who wrote these applications in 'General' aspect. (I worked on BTCrit and made it really nice and comprehensive)...
