I finally got back to this one. I took out the offending control and the rest of the form instantiated properly. Then I played around with the offending control.

It seems that VFP didn't like the way I had typed the Name of the control, "txtPHireDat". I changed some of the caps to lower case and it works fine now. I've seen FoxPro stumble on "invisible" characters before - probably leftovers from backspaces or something. Either that or vicious alien viruses!
