Title:
Loosing printer connection
I have an application running in Chicago and a number of reports needs to printed. When I print these reports (in a batch) over the LAN no problems occur. However, when printing these over the WAN to Dobbs Ferry the print connection usually terminates. This termination is irregular but it happens all the time. Sometimes it is at 10 percent of the job and sometimes it is at 30 percent.
I have been told by networking people within my company that this has to with time-outs causing the connection to be lost and the unability to restore them properly so the print is terminated.
They even suggested to use a program from the machine that is creating the report the 'ping' the printer continuously. This, however, is not a situation we would like to implement.
At this moment this is how it works:
The application is running on a local machine (W95)
This machine has a printer connection to the printer in DFY
How can I create a situation that the print is not terminated.
Can I spool the print to a local queue on a NT-server (on the LAN) and have this server print it to the printer (over the WAN).
Any suggestions is appreciated.
