Actually, just using an MS-supplied driver from an OS distribution rathher than an HP supplied driver seems to be pretty reliable almost regardless. The HP 4 Plus or 5si drivers from the MS TechNet distribution have both really worked well; you sacrifice the HP UI enhancements, but luittle else, and the problem doesn't occur. I'd rely on HP-supplied drivers about as readily as I'd rely on being able to drive safely around Boston on a weekend when the freshmen are arriving for shool.
