Figured out the problem. We had a config.nt and autoexec.nt on the server and we all point to that, but when a plain dos window is used it points back to system32. Just copied the settings into the local *.nt and works fine. Thanks.

>NT or 9x? In NT you can add a files=xxx in the config.nt file in the system32 folder. Not sure about 9x
