>According to some at the Professional Developer's Conference, Microsoft is not only submitting C# to ECMA as a standard, but also the Common Language Runtime. With CLR published as an open spec, the door is open for others to port it to other OS's, and to compile other languages to run on it.

David,

Interesting..

I noticed that they (ECMA) used the term "CLI", not "CLR". Do you know if there's a difference??

Nonetheless, this is such a classic MSFT move. Whenever they cannot get what they want in an area (Java in this case) they just redraw the circle and change the game. They did that to Novell by redefining what a network server was supposed to do and look like. It's very smart marketing and MSFT's competitors could do the same if they would get passed feeling so picked on. <g>

I think that MSFT is looking as far down the road as they are able and as a developer I like them as a partner.

Best,

DD
