This is a message I am posting for Lucien Elliott concerning your question. He sent the message to me because he had a problem when trying to post.
I hate to be argumentative, but most (ne all) of my customers are running on 386/486 single users and lan systems, and the speed penalties for VFP are currently killers. Hell, most of my customers would dry up and die if they had to depend on Windows much less VFP on top of windows.
Dont get me wrong, i AM moving toward VFP, but not for my existing clients (at least not till they move to next level upgrades). And even then, there is still a huge investment in 'legacy code' (foxpro is legacy already, my how time flys).
Power users (i have NONE), and newbies are always gonna want the latest and greatest, but when it comes to 'get the job done' admin operations, you still are gonna have a hard time beating good ole foxpro 2.x, especially in a LAN environment. Of course, i am already running into the 'does it run under windows95' questions on new sales calls.
Of course, if i were smarter, id be doing something that made more money than programming! Maybe picking cotton down home!
