You have two choices here, VARCHAR and TEXT. As Larry pointed out, VARCHAR has an upper limit of 8000 characters; TEXT is equivelant to the VFP MEMO field in that there is no upper limit (actually that's not true, in SQL there is an upper limit but it's pretty big). VARCHAR is also an indexable field.
In general I'd leave them as TEXT unless you anticipate needing to search on the field.
