When you go into the DBF and view the records some of them are full of strange ASCII characters and the index is totally hosed. If you move the pointer off of the record and back again sometimes the original data appears and sometimes not. The only way we've gotten around this is to copy the DBF to a new file, rename and reindex.

That's usually an indication of someone turning off their machine improperly or the server crashing. You also need to get them to upgrade their Novell client.
