It would be a good idea to qualify your technical level a bit so we can help you better.

From your saying that you've some familiarity with vb I infer that your development in access has been mostly limited to macros and the objects that can be created visually (or with wizards). Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Although vfp allows you to do many of the same things, I really can't imagine you getting by in vfp without inmersing yourself into actual programming.

If you do a lot of programming in access (vba), you will find that coding in vfp is much more straight forward (I do both, that's why I say this).

Either way, I suggest that you visit http://www.hentzenwerke.com and order a few books or even try to get a hold of Visual Foxpro 5 for dummies, which would make an excellent starting point.

Also, if you are serious about reviewing the product you should invest a little time and money and take Jim Duffy's class (http://www.takenote.com) in NC. It's well worth the effort.

Comparing native Access with native VFP (no sql server or msde), VFP is many times faster.

Reliability-wise, I had one instance where an access query was returning varying numbers of records depending on what fields I included (single table, no filters, nothing), so I don't trust access too much when it comes to large data sets.
