Ah! A religious war!
Well, I'm game!

I've used RH 5.0, 5.1, 5.2 and 6.0 I learned Linux on RH 5.0, which was a nice distro.
I spent a total of 5 months with RH, installing 6.0 here at work.
Since 5.0, in my opinion (sorry, Jerry!), RH hasn't put the quality into their distro that they should,
especially the 5.1 release, which was quickly followed by 5.2. I think that with 6.1 their quality is
coming back, however. Mandrake took advantage of RH's relaxed attitude toward quality by
taking a RH distro and polishing it up the way it should have been, plus adding some pizzaz of
their own. The latest Mandrake seems to have slipped a little in regard to server security details.
Time will tell if they regain their footing.

I've also used SuSE 5.3 through 6.3. After 5 months with RH I started looking around and decided
to try SuSE. I've found every one of their releases to be of high quality. YaST (Yet another System Tool)
is an excellent system maintenance utility. I don't use their new graphical version so I can't speak to it.
I have been using SuSE since Sept, 1997 and in the last 18 months haven't had a crash of the OS. I've
had some apps go down, but you can always recover a console with ALT+F2 and use ps and kill to
clean things up.

SuSE 6.3 is doing so well for me that I have not upgraded to SuSE 6.4 because I am waiting for SuSE to
come out with a distro that contains both KDE 2.0 and the KOffice stuff, plus the Journaling System as
part of the standard install. I've been tempted to try Mandrake just for grins because I've heard a lot of
good talk about it.

But, I don't think it would really make much of a difference which distro (RH, Mandrake, SuSE) you used,
they are all fine products.
IMHO.
