>Hello all,
>
> I have just come on board a new company and got handed a problem child app. The app is simple and straight forward but the problem we have is with the Oracle 8 ODBC connection. The connection works on one machine but no others, every other machine gets and ODBC error saying it can not find the data. I have duplicated every setting installed the oracle client software and I can not figure this out. The userid and password for the connection are hardcoded in and the connection shows as working through oracle utilities but VFP wont pick it up. Any suggestions?? TIA

2 places to look -- ODBC Administrator [Control Panel] and Oracle Net8 Easy Config utility [Oracle for Windows in Programs menu].

In the ODBC Admin, you will need to see if there is a DSN to the Oracle server. If so, this DSN must be on all the other clients and named the same name.

The Net8 Easy Config is used to add a new service to the TNSNAMES.ORA file. Look at the services on the computer that works. YOu can also do this manually by opening the TNSNAMES.ORA file with Notepad. Or if it does not matter, you can just copy the TNSNAMES.ORA from the working computer to the other clients. This file is found in the Oracle home directory [usually C:\Orawin95] in the Net80\Admin folder.
