Start/Settings/Printers
Then choose add printer.
Select Generic as the manufacturer and Generic / Text Only as the printer.
Sending your output to this printer instead of an epson or an hp or any other "modern" printer will result in the raw characters being sent to the parallel port of your computer, pretty much like in the DOS days.
For example, if you print the word "HELLO" and you are using a dot matrix printer with its windows drivers, window doesn't send the 5 letters in "HELLO", but a PICTURE of the word HELLO.
When you set windows to talk to the printer through the generic/textonly driver, you are forcing it to actually send only H-E-L-L-O if that's what you're printing and that way it's extremely fast.
