Read The Foxpro Manual (frequently, there's an alternative, generic substitute for Foxpro used, sounds sorta like 'Forking')

No need to do detailed research; VFP comes with OnLine Help; there's a Users Guide and Programmer's Reference that ought to be read in it. Adding a control either through Form Designer or programmatically are covered in there. I'd also recommend picking up some decent books that cover the general range of VFP programming - Whil Hentzen's "The Fundamentals" provides broad coverage of VFP, and makes it into the bathroom for reading materials more easily than the online help file.
