I don't think this is a VFP problem. I have experienced a very similar problem with VB6 where project files got trashed on an abrupt shut-down.

I put it down to incomplete buffer writes as I know Windows 2000 does delayed writes and I am using a very slow external drive for the projects.

Perhaps we deserve it for not shutting down cleanly, anyway, not being perfect particularly in the situation you describe, I invested in on-the fly backup software to make sure that my project files are secure somewhere else too.
